If I Could Change the World

While reading and journaling this past weekend I asked myself “If I could contribute and help others what would I most want to do? How would I want to change the world?”

I see so much pain and suffering in the world. I see it in people’s eyes, the way they speak, the way they move, the way the treat themselves and others.

I want to help alleviate that pain and suffering.

I want to help people…

Learn to love and accept themselves.

To not be afraid to express who they really are.

To live happier, more fulfilled lives.

To learn how to take away the pain of self-hate.

To find meaning and purpose in their lives.

    To forgive themselves and others.

To learn how to ask for and receive help.

To see themselves as good people, worthy of love and respect, not only from others but from themselves.

To recognize that it’s okay to slow down, to stop being busy and to have fun and enjoy life.

To find the inner courage to say ‘no’ to abuse and disrespect and to walk away from situations and people that harm them.

To have love, compassion and empathy for others.

To love and respect their children as individuals.

    To live independent, fulfilling lives.

To have faith in a Higher Power, to know that their lives matter and that their lives have meaning and purpose.

To feel loved, safe and protected.

To learn how to create loving, safe, supportive environments for their children (and all children).

I truly believe that love, especially self-love, compassion and respect are the cures to all that ails the earth from pollution to crime to racial, religious and cultural divides.

Love flows from the inside out and when love is present it’s impossible to deliberately hurt, harm or destroy people, places or things.

I know it sounds like something from the sixties, but I believe in the healing power and strength of LOVE and if I could change the world I’d most want to help people love themselves.

Sandy, I agree that if you could help people love themselves, the rest of your list would follow because as you said, if people love themselves, they wouldn’t “deliberately hurt, harm or destroy people, places or things.”

So true and so important that we keep saying it, believing it and living it. It was relevant in the 60s and remains relevant and urgent today.
