A Three-Day Weekend of Pampering

I’ve been feeling a bit rundown and out of sorts lately. I’ve been moody, short tempered, anxious and discombobulated.

Putting one foot in front of the other has felt like slogging through waist deep sludge.

So instead of just trying to push through and fight my way to feeling better I’ve decided to take a bit of a break over the next three days.

I have a few obligations, a class to teach, a few errands to run and my newsletter to write. These things are, for the most part, fun and easy so they won’t put much of a kink in my three-day weekend of pampering and recharging.

First, I am going to let go of:

    Pushing to make things happen.
    Working on anything specific.
    Striving to be the perfect.
Worrying about things I can’t change and the future.

Second, I am going to embrace:

Sleeping in. (Today, after being up from 2am-430am I went back to bed and slept until 8am – the latest I’ve slept in thirty plus years.)
    Reading.
    Bubble baths.
    Dinner out and ordering in.
Jersey farm fresh fruits and vegetables.
    Walks in the park.
Trips to the bookstore and the craftstore.
    Staying up late.
    Dreaming and idea gathering.
    Watching old movies.
    Art projects.
    Cloud gazing and bird watching.

To keep my car running I take good care of it and I keep it fueled.

To keep me running I have to do the same. I have to take good care of me and keep me fueled. This three-day weekend of pampering and recharging is a part of the plan.

How do you take care of yourself?

    Hi Sandy,

I love to see your newsletter sitting there in my email box – it’s always full of good stuff!

When I trained as a life coach with CoachU back in 2000, one of the exercises we were given was a ’10 Daily Habits’ worksheet, in which we were to list 10 things we would do each day that would improve our health and wellbeing. The worksheet included a little chart to fill in so you could keep a check on all the days you followed through on those 10 habits.

Nowadays I don’t bother with the chart but all the 10 habits are firmly embedded into my life – things like flossing, eating at least 5 fruit and veggies, eating whole grains, daily exercise, always wearing sunscreen, etc.

I’m single with no kids and no nieces or nephews to keep an eye on me so I reckon that, if I’m to avoid the dreaded nursing home when I get old, I need to put the work in now. I’m hoping my 10 daily habits will pay off in the long term. (So far, so good – I haven’t had so much as a cold in the last 7 years – fingers crossed…)

    Ann
