Excerpt: Twitter FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
-
I don’t have an iPhone or a Blackberry. How can I use Twitter?
-
Although many people do use social media apps for Twitter on their smart phones, the application actually runs off of the internet.
All you need is an internet connection and a computer or laptop (or iPad).
I do all of my Tweeting from my laptop.
What should I use as a Twitter ID?
-
The best choice is your name, or your business name. If both of these are taken try to use a derivative of one or the other.
Avoid names like Sandy13224 – names that mean nothing.
Descriptive names can be used too if they convey the right message.
Do I need a bio?
-
Yes, without a doubt you do need a bio.
Your bio tells people who you are and what you or your business is all about. It is often the first thing people will read to determine if they are going to Follow you.
Remember to include personal details. Be a real person.
Do I need a picture/avatar?
-
Yes. Use a headshot or your company logo.
The Twitter default avatar is a sure sign that you are a newbie, mass marketer or spammer and will turn potential Followers off.
I have two very different businesses / products. Should have separate Twitter accounts for each?
-
If you have two distinctively different businesses where there isn’t much crossover of your audience or customer base it can be a good idea to have a Twitter account devoted to each one.
