After reading the Joyfully Jobless blog post “The Natural Habitat of Winners” I left the comment “This is why I am headed to Inspired Livelihood, April 16-17, Sedona, AZ. Hooray!!!”
Barbara replied:
“Sandy, And I think it’s no coincidence that you’ve made continuous progress since setting out on your Joyfully Jobless Journey AND you keep stretching yourself by hanging out in places where learning is abundant. I suspect you also have made a commitment for this to be an neverending process. Hooray!
By the way, I believe the process goes something like this: Learn. Test. Activate. Repeat.”
I’ve talked about having a personal lifelong learning investment portfolio before, but I didn’t always think this way.
It is super easy for me to spend money on other people. I’ve always been very generous, many times to the point that it was detrimental to my own financial well being.
And, when it came to taking time for myself, well there just wasn’t any left over after work and saying ‘yes’ and putting other people’s needs ahead of my own.
But, spending money on myself, traveling to learn, traveling to meet new people, seeking out new experiences and taking time out of my schedule just for me, well that was too frivolous and self indulgent.
As I’ve said before things began to change for me in 2006-2007 as the tenth anniversary of my Dad’s passing approached. I had to make some changes in my life.
I made it a priority to invest in myself, to invest both time and money. And, the dividends keep on paying.
If I hadn’t invested in myself I wouldn’t be writing this blog post, The Dreaming Café wouldn’t exist, I would not have had the courage to leave my corporate career to start my own business, I wouldn’t have written my first e-book, I wouldn’t be working with people to help make their lives and their businesses better, I wouldn’t be teaching workshops on a topics I love, I wouldn’t have the many opportunities that keeping opening up in front of me and my dreams wouldn’t still be growing.
That is why I am committed more than ever to continuing to invest in myself.
And, that is why I will be attending the Inspired Livelihood workshop, April 16-17, in Sedona, AZ, a workshop designed to help me eliminate the mental obstacles and bridge the gap between making money and making a difference on a bigger scale.
Today, money might be a little tighter than when I worked a high paying corporate job, but I have more time. And, more time means more opportunity to be more creative.
