It's all Perspective

On the drive home tonight I saw this on the side of a work van…“The reward for good work, is more work.”

My first thought was , ‘ugghh’.

But, within a split second another thought popped into my head, and I thought “Yes! That’s right!”

You see, my first thought was coming from the perspective of an employee. As an employee good work is often rewarded with more work and this can mean more hours, more headaches and more responsibility, all for the same pay. Sometimes your good work is rewarded with more work as your co-workers collect the same paycheck as you and do just what they need to to get by.

But, my perspective is changing. You see the second thought that popped up was from the perspective of an entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur good work is often rewarded with more work, which can mean more customers, more opportunities and more income potential.

As an employee my company reaps all the rewards of my good work, but as an entrepreneur I reap all the rewards of my good work.

Now, I wasn’t happy with my first thought, but was thrilled with the second—not just because I am starting to think like an entrepreneur and shed old beliefs, but because that statement holds such potential!!

I am keeping this quote on my desk…“The reward for good work, is more work.”

What was your first thought when you read that sentence?

love this post SAndy. “WORK” like the word “TRIP” is all in the perspective.
To “trip” can be heard as “to stumble and fall” or “to take a fabulous journey.” I hear it the second way. Welcome to the sunny-side, Sandy. Even if you haven’t left your job quite yet, you have arrived on the the happy side where more work means more opportunity for challenge, growth and prosperity. Where WORK is not a four letter word. Well, it’s a GOOD four letter word, like FOOD, LOVE, and SOAR.
