Sunday morning I did something I’ve never really done before, well not since kindergarten. I painted, well I attempted to anyway.
It took me over a week to work up the courage to actually play with my new watercolors.
This past Sunday for over two hours I played with the colors, tried to paint some pictures, and realized I like painting words.
I also realized that everything I do doesn’t have to be about being perfect, or productive or even about creating something tangible to share. Somethings I can do just for the pure pleasure of doing them.
Once I got into this mindset I had fun and painted what I wanted-words.
I took a few pictures to document this ‘new’ beginning, my first time painting, and I’d like to share them with you – not because they are good, but because they represent a first, something new, and something that was just old-fashioned, being a kid, fun

I still want to learn to paint. I want to learn how to turn the images I have in my head into images on paper, images that will visually bring to life the words I write and the stories I share, but for right now, I am just exploring like a five-year-old and having fun.

Your paintings are EXACTLY as i imagined Sandy’s paintings and I hope, no i KNOW, that as you take classes and “learn to paint” that you will not forget the JOY a child feels when they paint without self judgement. Your paintings feel like a visual automatapiea.
Thanks for the support Terry. I will be sure to check your site out, http://mycreativityblog.com/
Hi Sandy! Glad to see you playing with watercolors. That is what it takes to get the feel, to understand just what you can do with them. I love the vibrancy and transparency of watercolors. I have several articles about watercolor that might be helpful.
Thanks, Connie. You are an inspiration.

Cameron and Jamie…thank you so much for your enthusiastic support!
You are welcome, Sandi. Go ahead, blog about it and have fun with it!
Good for you! I’ve found that the more I create art, the more confidence I have about it, so keep at it!! There are no wrong answers… craft-media artist Donna Downey teaches classes and answers every question with YES… should I do this, is it okay to do this, the answer is always YES… it’s really quite empowering! Way to go!
Yay you!! Congratulations on working up to it and diving in! Congratulations on this first time, this new beginning, the fun and the pleasure. Yay!
no, i’m not blogging about it, but I should, huh? I am so wanting to journal, and it’s such a stumbling block for me. I start and i think it isnt neat enough, or dont know what to write- and i drop it fast. I need to face this head on!! thank you for your positive outlook on things.
Thanks, Sandi – when you become aware of it, trying something new is a big wake up. Are you blogging about this, too?
YaY for you girl….. I love the idea of trying something new each day/week….. i think it is a great way to face some of the fears I have bottled up in my head. I also totally agree about letting go of the need to perfect/the need for control. I worry this IS my biggest obstacle. Thanks for inspiring!!!
xoxo
Thank you for the encouragement, Michele!
Watercolors are so smooth and flowing. One of my favorite ways to paint words is to visualize the way that a word sounds and put it on paper. Painting words is a very creative process. I’m glad to hear that you are enjoying it so much.
